Sock Piggee Pattern

Finished measurements are approximately 5.5 inches wide x 5.5 inches long
Gauge: 6sts x 9rows = 1 inch
Materials: One set US Size 2 dp knitting needles, DK Yarn 1 35 yards (Y1)(I use self striping), DK Yarn 2 30 yards (Y2)(I use cream colored), 1 tapestry needle, Black DMC Floss, Needle & thread Polyester stuffing

Stitch Instructions;  
Knit Encroachment: sl1 (from left needle to right needle), lift stitch below next stitch onto the left needle, slip previously slipped stitch back onto the left needle and k2tog.
Perl Encroachment: sl1 (from left needle to right needle), lift stitch below next stitch onto the left needle, slip previously slipped stitch back onto the left needle and p2tog.

st=stitch, k=knit, p=perl, k enc=knit encroachment, p enc=perl encroachment,k2tog=knit 2 together p2tog=perl 2 together

Do not stuff yet. The eyes and the tail will be easier to attach.

Snout
Row 1: With Y2 CO 24 Row 2-5: Join ends and knit each row Row 6: Purl all stitches Row 10: k24
Row 11: (k1, k2tog) 8 times, Row 12: knit all stitches, Row 13: (k2tog) 8 times, cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail, and using a tapestry needle thread it through the remaining six stitches, pull tight and tie off on the purl side of your work. Do not worry about weaving in loose ends, they can be threaded into the body and trimmed after stuffing.

Eyes
Row 1: Using Y2 CO 18 stiches, turn, Row 2: sl1, p2tog 8 times, p1, turn, Row 3: sl1, k2tog 4 times, k1, do not turn, cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail, and using a tapestry needle thread it through the 6 remaining stitches pull tight. 

Tail
Row 1: Using Y2 CO 20 stitches, turn, Row 2: purl, turn, cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail, and using a tapestry needle thread it through all 20 stitches pull tight and work into a curly Q, tie off and attach to the closed end of the body section.

Using the pictures as a guide, carefully attach all the parts and secure the eyes into place with a needle and thread. You will be adding details to them later on.

Legs(make 4)
Row 1: With Y2 and starting approximately 24 inches from the end of the yarn, CO 24 Row 2-5: Join ends and knit. Row 6: Purl all stitches Row 7: (k1, k2tog) 8 times Row 8: knit, Row 9:(k2tog) 8 times, cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail, and using a tapestry needle thread it through the remaining six stitches, pull tight and tie off on the purl side of your work. Do not worry about weaving in loose ends, they can be threaded into the body and trimmed before stuffing. Repeat rows 1-8 for each of the 3 remaining legs. 
To assure proper placement of the legs, and using a piece of scrap yarn, you can make a basting stitch which will be removed once the legs are attached.

If there is a gap at the place where you joined the ends together for the legs, you can close them with the tapestry needle.


Ear 1

Do not weave in loose ends, you’ll be using these to attach the ears to the body.  Finish side seams by aligning bottom edges of front and back; ease in the difference in length (back is longer than front). Do not stuff with fiber fill.

This is what each ear will look like after the knitting is done. You will now stitch the edges together.
Once the ears are complete you can stitch them on at approximately 90 degrees to each other. You may want to hold them on until you are satisfied with the angle and then use a pin to secure them until they are stitched into place.
